A physiotherapist’s children – Liz and Charles Clare – have created a network of 18 clinics across England that offer innovative treatments for pain and mobility issues linked to musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions.

As managing director and chief technical officer respectively, they help to run MBST UK, which supplies physiotherapists and other healthcare professionals in the private sector with a range of regenerative technology options.

MBST UK announced last week (22 October) that its devices will be used as part of MSK integrated treatment plans at a Neighbourhood Health Hub located at the University of East London’s (UEL) Stratford campus (see image). UEL has run physiotherapy degree programmes for many years.

Under the new partnership, MBST UK will offer free sessions to eligible residents of the London borough of Newham as part of a series of clinical trials running over three years.

Seeing our devices in a preventive healthcare setting that benefits members of the community that may not have been able to access our innovative technology is a huge step for us’ [Liz Clare]

MBST is described as an innovative safe non-invasive medical technology that works at the cellular level to support the body’s natural repair processes. It’s designed to help with pain and injury by reducing inflammation, easing pain, and supporting faster recovery and long-term mobility.

‘Exciting’ partnership

Liz Clare said she was excited by the partnership’s prospects. ‘Seeing our devices in a preventive healthcare setting that benefits members of the community that may not have been able to access our innovative technology is a huge step for us, and one that we’re very proud of.’

Liz added: ‘Through the course of this three-year partnership, the clinical data that we’ll see will provide invaluable large-scale insights that will support our vision and drive to see even more people benefit from our preventive, safe and non-invasive medical technology.’

Enhancing students’ experience

Robert Waterson, executive dean of UEL’s school of health, sport and bioscience, welcomed MBST into the Neighbourhood Health Hub. ‘It reflects our commitment to innovation in community healthcare and to ensuring local residents have access to prevention-focused approaches.’

Mr Waterson added: ‘At the same time, our students gain real-world experience of emerging technologies, which strengthens their preparation for NHS careers.’

About MBST UK

With more than 2 million sessions completed worldwide and no reported side effects, the technology is already part of MSK care in Europe, according MBST UK.

The technology is used in a range of clinics and sports clubs as part of a player’s integrated treatment plan. In the UK, it has been adopted by Charlton Athletic and Wrexham football clubs and by AFC Bath Rugby.

The Neighbourhood Health Hub

Located at UEL’s Stratford Health Campus, the hub is said to be the UK’s first pioneering university centre to provide hospital-quality, integrated specialist care, which is beyond standard GP services and without requiring a hospital visit. With a dedicated focus on prevention and early intervention, it enhances the training of the next generation of healthcare professionals.
